Ontology and Lexicon Evolution by Text Understanding

چکیده
We introduce a methodology for automating the maintenance and extension of domain taxonomies, combined with the acquisition of lexical knowledge on the basis of a natural language understanding system. By defining the strength of various forms of evidence, conceptual as well as lexical hypotheses are ranked according to qualitive plausibility criteria and the most reasonable ones are selected for assimilation into the already given domain ontology and lexical class hierarchy.

OntoQuery: Ontology-based Querying of Texts
This paper addresses techniques for extracting conceptual descriptions from text sources and queries based on an ontology. The taxonomic ontology comprises featurestructured conceptual descriptions, and retrieval is based on description similarity relative to the ontology. Introduction The aim of the OntoQuery project (Andreasen, Nilsson, and Thomsen 2000; OntoQuery) is to contribute to the dev...
متن کاملThree Experiments on Mining the Web for Ontology and Lexicon Learning
This paper describes an approach to alleviating the well-known problem of the knowledge acquisition bottleneck in knowledgebased systems. In knowledge-based, meaning-oriented natural language processing, the core knowledge resources are a semantic lexicon and an ontological world model in terms of which lexical meaning is expressed. We describe a mutual bootstrapping approach whereby existing r...
متن کاملOntology Maintenance using Textual Analysis
Ontologies are continuously confronted to evolution problem. Due to the complexity of the changes to be made, a maintenance process, at least a semi-automatic one, is more and more necessary to facilitate this task and to ensure its reliability. In this paper, we propose a maintenance ontology model for a domain, whose originality is to be language independent and based on a sequence of text pr...
متن کاملExploring the UMLS: a rough sets based theoretical framework
The Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) [1] has a unique and leading position in the evolution of thesauri and metathesauri. Features that set it apart are: its composition from more than fifty component health care vocabularies; the sophisticated UMLS ontology linking the Metathesaurus with structures such as the Semantic Network and the SPECIALIST lexicon; and the high level of social coll...
متن کاملLexicon, Ontology, and Text Meaning
A computationally relevant theory of lexical semantics must take into consideration both the form and the content of three different static knowledge sources -the lexicon, the ontological domain model and a text meaning representation language. Meanings of lexical units axe interpreted in terms of their mappings into the ontology and/or their contributions to the text meaning representation. We...
